Midsummer, also celebrated as St. Hans Aften in Norway, is right around the corner. How will you be celebrating? If you live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, consider including the following events in your plans!
On Thursday evening, June 21, Norway House will be hosting its annual Midtsommer Celebration and Going Viking awards. This year's honorees are Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Robert Bergland, National Geographic photographer, environmentalist and author Jim Brandenburg, and Dean of Skogfjorden Language Village Tove Dahl, who will also be representing Skogfjorden as Norway House's 2012 partner organization. For more info, visit the Norway House website.
If you're a fan of Scandinavian vocal music you'll want to take in Saturday night's performance by the Nordic Singers, featuring vocalists Hans Lawaetz, Cecilia Lindwall, Rani Gislason and Magnus Gislason, and pianist Knud Rasmussen. The performance, sponsored by the American Swedish Institute, Danish American Center and The Edvard Grieg Society, will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 7:30 pm at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis. Contact any of the host organizations for more information.
Amy Boxrud is editor of Viking magazine. She lives with her family in Northfield, Minn., where she’s a member of Nordmarka 1-585.
